30 teams for inaugural media sports gala

Up to 30 media houses will compete in netball, football and athletics at the inaugural media sports gala to be held on Sunday at Namboole Stadium.

The gala is aimed at unifying media employees, owners, governing bodies as well as public relations.
Football draws held yesterday at Namboole saw teams pooled in six groups.

From the group stages, teams will proceed to the round of 16 before quarter finals to Semis and Finals in that order.
Meanwhile athletics will feature sprints and relays including the 400m, 200m 4x100m, 4x100m for both men and women as well as the mixed relay.

The event will also involve guest teams including Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) , Uganda Media Owners Association (UMOA), Public Relations Association of Uganda (Prau) and Uganda Advertisers Association (UAA).
Patrick Kanyomozi the Uganda Sports Press Association President (Uspa) who also serves as the tournament director has called upon teams to field only their employees.

“The tournament is not for licensed and professional players, but it is for media employees and any team that will field mercenaries will be penalised,” he said.
Kanyomozi also encouraged supporters to throng Namboole stadium to cheer their favourite reporters, presenters and writers.

He added that for the start, winners will walk away with trophies.
The event to be held annually has been sponsored by Nation Media Group, Betway, Uganda Breweries, Namboole Stadium, Legends events and Hospitality, City Ambulance, Mandela Group and Fufa.
