Vipers continued their spending spree with the acquisition of two strikers with Muhammad Shaban making a return to Kitende and Fahad Bayo also joining the three-time league winners.
That development alone is bound to lift the mood of anyone at St. Mary’s Stadium. So it did not come entirely as a surprise that Vipers head coach Edward Golola was in high spirits ahead of his side’s Pilsner Super 8 clash against Mbarara at St. Mary’s Stadium this evening.
“We have prepared well and if the boys follow our instructions then we should be able to get a good result,” Golola said. Golola however revealed that Shaban who was unveiled on Wednesday is not available for selectionfor the game.
“I will only choose the players who have trained with us,” he added. He still has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal including Dennis Mwemezi who scored the lone goal in the previous round against Proline. Tito Okello and Henry Kitegenyi will also be in contention for the lead striker’s role behind youngster Abdul Karim Watambala who put a man-of-the-match performance to justify his selection ahead of Frank Tumwesigye.
Mbarara though appear unfazed tough going by the message sent out through club PRO Osborn Mushabe.
“Last time we played at Kitende we drew 1-1. We had many injuries but held on for a draw. We are hopeful we’ll win this time round. I don’t think we are underdogs. We are well prepared,” Mushabe whose team are unbeaten against Vipers in three games, stressed. Mbarara, under the guidance of Brian Ssenyondo, progressed to this final four stage with an impressive 2-0 win over URA at Kakyeka.
