What you need to know:

  • Soccer. With every performance of the bottom sides, it seems their need for new strikers during the January transfer window goes up several notches.
  • Just two goals were scored in yesterday’s games. And, on this evidence, hopes of hanging on to the league may well rest on whether or not they can find goalscorers.

Kampala. There were little gains made by three of the bottom four sides from the two games played in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League yesterday.
Maroons leapfrogged Villa into 12th position on the 16-team log after salvaging a draw against Express at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira.
Tony Odur gave Express the lead on the stroke of halftime by tapping in from close range after Badru Nsubuga’s shot had been kept out by a combination of Maroons goalkeeper Emmanuel Akol and the crossbar.
But Ronald Orombi tapped home the equalizer from a rebound 17 minutes from time after Express goalkeeper Ronald Mutebi failed to keep out Brian Majwega’s feekick.
The result of the evenly balanced game sees Express seventh with 20 points after 14 games, a position that could change basing on today’s games.
At Kakyeka hosts Nyamityobora and Paidha Black Angels the two teams that started the day at the bottom of the log played out a goalless draw.
The result moved Nyamityobora level on eight points with Ndejje who now drop into the bottom of two because of an inferior goal difference ahead of their game today against Tooro.
Paidha are meanwhile bottom with six points after 14 games.

Lucky Proline regain top
Meanwhile, Proline, needed Dove’s magic wand to regain top spot despite a 1-1 draw to Kansai Plascon.
A visit to promotion contenders Plascon was not the perfect opportunity but they had it their way following a Mustafa Mujuzi first half lead which was cancelled in the dying minutes yet Kiboga lost for the first time against a visiting Dove. Proline are top with 20 points courtsey of a better goal difference. Now Wakiso Giants remain the only unbeaten side after a 2-1 win over Entebbe.
