MBALE. Gaddafi Integrated remained stunned after their title defence in the girls’ football competition prematurely ended at the Fresh Dairy Secondary School Games yesterday.

Gaddafi, champions in Fort Portal last year, were bundled out at the last 16 stage by emerging side Mukono Bishops SS 5-4 via the lottery of penalties after a goalless duel at the cricket ground.

Gaddafi coach Rajab Buyinza was short of words after luck didn’t go their way when Aisha Namukisa missed her spot-kick, leaving Bishops to set up a semi-final date with Kawempe Muslim due this morning.
“Reaching the semi-finals for the first time is an achievement,” said Bishops’ coach William Kyeswa.

“We are here because of my players’ self-belief and playing as a unit,” he said.
Kyeswa will hope that the script is intact when his girls walk onto the dusty field to meet giants Kawempe Muslim who trounced Buhobe SS 7-0.

Here, Juliet Nalukenge took her tally to nine goals with a comfortable brace. Her counterparts Anita Namata and Margaret Kunihira each as well got two goals and Hadijah Nandego made the score sheet too. Coach Ayub Khalifa’s side has not won this gong since 2016 which fuels their motivation. “Our target is to win the trophy. We don’t want to go three years without winning it,” stated Nalukenge.

The race for the top scorer’s honour now has Crested Cranes forwards Nalukenge and Fauziah Najjemba of Mukono High School in a silent battle.
