Soccer. Vipers coach Martinez Espinoza has received a timely boost with the return of Tadeo Lwanga and Godfrey Wasswa as he seeks to overturn a 1-0 defeat against CS Constantine on Saturday

KAMPALA. A defender with invention, craftiness and athleticism, Vipers’ vice-captain Geoffrey Wasswa could be that vital player to determine the Caf Champions League return leg with CS Constantine tomorrow.
Lately, Wasswa has become the go-to player at the club and he knows the onus that awaits him at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday if they are to overturn the 1-0 first leg loss to progress to the lucrative group stage.
“We are going to battle together as a team and we believe we can do it.
“Our main problem has been scoring many goals but after putting three past Bul, we feel it is possible against Constantine,” he told Daily Monitor yesterday.

Wasswa missed the first contest in Algiers through suspension and is confident his return, along with skipper Taddeo Lwanga should galvanize the team a great deal.
His ever growing influence was evidenced in the team’s previous two wins before the suspension setting up Abraham Ndugwa for the solitary goal against Al Merreikh in the previous round. He also found Daniel “Mzee” Sserunkuma with a pinpoint pass for the goal against Police in another 1-0 win while playing at right back. He also scored the winner to break Paidha resistance while playing in midfield in a 2-1 victory.

“It will depend where the coach will want me to play in his system but I’m ready for the challenge,” the adaptable defender who can play at right back, central defence and in holding midfield added.
“With an early goal, we can make life difficult for them at home. It is upon everyone in the team to get the goals,” Wasswa revealed.
He will hope to have club captain Taddeo Lwanga alongside him after the midfielder was taken off at half time of Wednesday’s win over Bul.
“He told me he was feeling pain but he could continue. So I just decided to keep him out for the next game,” Espinoza said.
