Ed Sheeran looks to bright future

What you need to know:

As Britain’s best kept musical secret, the young man has a lot of responsibility lying on his shoulders.

Ed sheeran is among an emerging crop of artists gaining fame before signing to a major record label or releasing their first album. This young English lad broke onto the scene last year with the single “The A Team,” which took the United Kingdom and later the whole world by storm.

He followed this with “You Need Me I Don’t Need You,” (a song hitting back at his former manager) and “Lego Games.” The latter made me a convert of his music for his lyrical prowess, harmonious melody and insight.

Since then, he has gone on to sign with Atlantic Records and recently released his album “+” [pronounced plus], towards the end of June this year in the USA and rest of the world, having released it much earlier in the UK. His boyish charm has made him a darling of young English maidens; some have called him the UK’s Bieber.

He chooses to tread where few break-out artists would go and sing about subjects like crack and abortions. And when he does sing about love, it is not with clichéd words. From start to finish, you are in some kind of musical utopia. It leads off with “A Team,” a heart-breaking song about a lady of the night and her affliction with drugs. He then transitions into “Drunk”, a self-loathing attempt to rekindle a lost love. Other noteworthy songs include “Grade 8,” where he lets his hip-hop influence become evident and I do predict chart success for this song.”

“Lego House,” from his previous work is out of this world and continues to only get better with every listen. “Kiss Me” is not your ordinary corny love song but filled with passion. This song may melt even the stoniest of hearts.

He may have been the UK’s best secret for a sometime but he has been catapulted onto the world scene. He may be the next Briton to rule the charts after Adele’s irrefutable commercial success.
