Kenzo in flip-flop over Rema case

Lawyers have withdrawn their earlier petition addressed to a medical body, the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC), to investigate an allegation that Dr Hamza Sebunya has broken the professional and ethical code of conduct by contracting a marriage with his patient, Ms Rema Namakula.

The lawyers of Nalukoola, Kakeeto Advocates had written to the aforementioned health body on September 11 on instruction of one of their clients, Mr Sharif Sentongo Nambaale, who says he is aggrieved by Dr Sebunya’s move to marry one of his patients as this constitutes a professional misconduct.

However, in a September 13 letter addressed to the registrar of AHPC, Mr Nambaale through his lawyers revoked the petition saying he had lost interest in the matter.
“Reference is made to our earlier letter dated September 11. Our client has unequivocally and expressly instructed us to notify your good office as we hereby do that, he has lost interest in the matter,” the letter partly reads.

AHPC is a statutory body that regulates, supervises and controls the training, practice and other related matters of allied health professionals in the country.
Ms Jean Caroline Awor, the legal and public relations officer at AHPC, on Friday last week confirmed that they had received both letters.
“We have received another letter today,” Ms Awor said.

“In the register of AHPC, we have Sebunya Hamza, who is registered as a medical laboratory technician and not Dr Sebunya Hamza,” she added.
Ms Awor said records at AHPC indicate that Mr Hamza Sebunya is a medical laboratory technician and not a doctor.
