The firm; will keep you on knife’s edge

This television series is adapted from John Grisham’s best seller bearing the same title. The series is a continuation of the book and the highly successful film in which Tom Cruise played lead man.

Josh Lucas stars as Mitch mc Deere the protagonist 10 years later after helping topple the firm Bendini, Lambert and Locke, a firm that protected the Chicago mob syndicate. In this highly engrossing action packed drama, Mitch returns to law practice and starts up his own firm in Washington where he works mainly a public defendant in a bid to start all over and to support his family.

While he goes about his business, he is approached by a shady law firm, Kinross and Clark, who seem to be interested in his law practice. Being strapped for cash, he reluctantly agrees to join their ranks since he requires their help in one of his major cases against another big firm.

Little does he know the real reason they have taken interest in him is not because of his exceptional lawyering skills but because of their particular interest in one of his clients.

To add to his misfortune the mob have also learnt of his whereabouts and are keeping tabs on his activities waiting for the opportune moment to get revenge, especially the son of the deceased boss now the one calling the shots.

The brains behind the show is Lukas Reiter the same individual behind shows legal dramas like Boston Legal and The Practice. The concept is old school but Josh Lucas does manage to do his part justice and you can’t help but root for this underdog and his family.

The legal arguments raised in this drama are also intellectually stimulating reminiscent somewhat to those in Boston Legal. Otherwise for those who loved the book this is a must-watch as the suspense keeps building with every episode.

It starts slow but seems to be headed for an interesting climax.
