What you need to know:

Ever walked into someone’s home and you are welcomed with words like, “What happens here stays here” how would you feel upon reading such words?

It cannot go unnoticed that this year 2020 has been quite different from what the previous years have been to each one of us at various levels. However, as it draws to a close, there are décor trends that should not pass you by. An incorporation of one or two kinds of these in your space will make it more welcoming while communicating what you may not necessarily be able to tell your visitor or housemate.

Ever walked into someone’s home and you are welcomed with words like, “What happens here stays here” how would you feel upon reading such words? Albeit you will feel welcome and assured that you will definitely have a good time and enjoy your stay.

It also says a thing or two about the homeowner as a fun loving person. Now imagine, you enter the house and in one room you encounter words like, “Reading never hurt a Fly.”  Decorating with statements is a common trend that has been around for a while. In some homes, they will have frames with prayers, quotes from the Holy Books and others may opt for words of wisdom spoken a thousand years by philosophers and freedom fighters.

Follow a certain concept

“There’s what we call concept. A number of times people like to use lettered décor to spice up their walls. Tribals and graffiti are also used in the same way. The concept will be determined by your style, fonts and graphics,” says Andrew Mbabazi, an interior designer with Ayodele Innovations Limited.

But how does one use them as a focal point to decorate their living spaces? Mbabazi recommends paying attention to the message that they wish to send, font used and background.

He advises that one can also think of the material on which their message will appear. Is the material steel, aluminum, plastic, natural wood or acrylic? All these factors will come into play bearing in mind the colour selection too. This will make or break what ideally would be your glimmer moment.

Some styles, Mbabazi says may demand natural wood or a different kind of material. However, whatever is appealing to the eye may work as long as you feel that it will best deliver your message.  He notes that when done properly, it is a great addition to any living space.

Pay attention to the message

He also adds that one should think of what their guests will think of when they read some of the sentences in your living space. Just because you like something does not necessarily mean it will work perfectly for them too.

He advises that one can customize it to their own liking and space fitting and also determine how it will communicate to the people who will come into one’s space.

On the other hand, Bridget Namusoke, a home owner shares that her selection for certain sentences is largely determined by the power in the message.

“I have a number of stickers and wall frames with inspirational quotes and sentences and they uplift, motivate, encourage and lighten my home whenever I read one,” Namusoke says.

Perhaps it’s time you tried it out too, imagine at the end of a hard day, walking home only to read a hanging with “You are perfect the way you are!” wouldn’t you feel much better? I bet you would. They can act as forms of therapy for you as well while adding beauty to your home. You can incorporate different words for the different rooms.
