Soroti- The High Court in Soroti has dismissed the election petition against Ngora District Woman MP Jacqueline Amongin of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Ms Stella Apolot Isodo of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who got 19,755 votes, sued Ms Amongin, who received 24,599 votes and the Electoral Commission for alleged bribery and non-compliance with the electoral laws and sought nullification of the election. She accused Ms Amongin of bribing voters.

However, court ruled that the petitioner failed to prove the bribery allegations against the first respondent.
The petitioner’s lawyers, Mr Samuel Isodo and Mr Phillip Engulu, had alleged that Amongin openly distributed hoes to voters and asked them to vote her.

In a ruling read for him by Soroti Chief Magistrate Ruth Nabaasa, the trial judge, Justice Bill Kainamura, stated that Ms Isodo failed to prove that Amongin had distributed the hoes and iron sheets as alleged.

Mr Samuel Isodo, the lead lawyer for the petitioner, said: “We shall appeal against the ruling.”
