As the deadline for the start of the National Census process approaches, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced over 80,000positions to be filled in the positions of Parish Supervisors and Enumerators country wide.

During a press conference held on Monday at UBOS head office in Kampala, Government announced that it needed over 80,000 to fill the different positions for the census exercise that kicks off in August 2014.

According to UBOS Communication and Public Relations Manager, Mr Godfrey Nabongo, the exercise will stretch from 1st August to 14 September 2014.
Mr Nabongo said interested Ugandans should submit their handwritten applications to the Sub-County Census Supervisors or Division Census Officers as may be applicable.

“The public is hereby informed that the deadline for submission has been hereby extended to 5.00 pm Friday 4th July, 2014,” said Mr Nabongo.
The census enumeration will be conducted from August 28 to September 6 with the night of 27th August as the census reference date, according to UBOS. All persons who will have spent that night in Uganda will be enumerated accordingly.

The census enumeration has been decentralized to the higher Local Governments and Municipalities in order to ensure that the exercise is executed smoothly.

According to Mr Nabongo, District Census Committees and District Census Offices have also been established to coordinate the census programme at that level while at the Lower Local Government (Sub-County/ Division levels), the respective Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) have already nominated Supervisors to support the activity.

“UBOS, therefore, through the Local Government structures is undertaking to recruit experienced and competent persons on temporary terms to work as Parish/Ward Supervisors (Job Ref Number UBOS/NP&HC/01/06/14) or Enumerators (Job Ref Number UBOS/NP&HC/02/06/14) in the specific geographical areas,” added Mr Nabongo.

UBOS notes that the applicants for the supervisor position are required to be holders of at least an A-Level certificate with good credits in English and Math at O-Level. They should be ordinary residents of the Sub county or Division where they wish to work and with good public relations.

The applicants for the enumerator position, however, must be ordinary residents of the village where they wish to work and must have an O-Level certificate as a minimum requirement. Possession of A-Level certificate or credits in English and Mathematics at O-level will be added advantages.
