I didn’t rig elections for Museveni - Baryamureeba

Prof Venansius Baryamureeba

Tororo- Presidential candidate Venansius Baryamureeba has denied allegations that he rigged votes for President Museveni at the time he was heading the ICT department at Makerere University.

While addressing rallies in Tororo District on Tuesday, Prof Baryamureeba said rigging elections is purely done through declaration forms and not computers.

He said the allegations are “unfounded” and are being used by some of his opponents to weaken his grounds.

“Those peddling such speculation against Baryamureeba are scared and do not have any agenda for this country, but l am sure that the time for lying to Ugandans has come to an end,’’ he said.

The candidate was responding to questions raised by some voters at the rally who claimed the former Makerere University vice chancellor rigged elections on behalf of the ruling NRM party in 2011.

Prof Baryamureeba pledged to introduce health insurance care for every Ugandan.

He condemned the current status of the health facilities in the country, saying most hospitals are death traps that have contributed to high death rates because no attention has been given to the sector, including the health workers.

Prof Baryamureeba added that immediately he is announced head of State after the 2016 general election, his key interest will focus on improving education, health and agricultural sectors to ensure that Ugandans have access to quality services.

He promised to revive cooperative movement to support farmers’ access agricultural financing such that they are in position to buy quality agricultural inputs such as tractors, fertilizers and improved planting materials without necessarily relying on external support.

The presidential candidate stressed that for Uganda to achieve transformation, it is the role of all Ugandans to unite and guard their votes in the general election.
