Kabale teacher arrested over defilement – police

A 31-year-old primary teacher at Triple M Primary school in Kabale District has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old pupil of the said learning institution.

Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate told journalists that the crime happened on October 21 at around 10am at Ahamurimbe Village, Kaharo Sub-County in Kabale District.

Maate said that the suspect allegedly summoned the victim to take some books to the school’s staff room where he took advantage of being alone in the room and forced her into a sexual act.

“The suspect gave the victim Shs5,000 as an inducement and asked her never to tell anyone about what happened,” police noted.

Maate added that: “The suspect did not use a condom during the sexual act and the victim later informed her parents that in turn reported the matter to Nyanja police station, leading to the arrest of the accused.”

Following the incident, the crime scene was visited by police detectives led by D/SP Mukama Hakim where a sketch plan of the scene was drawn before statements were recorded from the witnesses- and the victim examined.

“The teacher’s conduct was not only unprofessional but also unethical because it was the duty of the suspect to protect pupils under his care from any related danger and the aggravated defilement case was recorded at Kabale police station under,” police explained,

According to police, areas neighbouring Kabale District recorded over 50 cases of rape in the last 3 months.
