Kira child sacrifice: Three suspects face murder charges

KAMPALA. Police have preferred murder charges against three suspects accused of sacrificing a 18-month-old girl last week in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said a case file with preferred murder charges against the victim’s mother, caretaker and one male neighbour had been sent to Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal, legal advice and possible sanctioning.
He said all investigations point to a possible child sacrifice orchestrated by the deceased’s mother, female caretaker and their male friend, all currently detained at Kira Road Police Station.
“We first arrested the mother and baby’s caretaker but we have since arrested the third suspect who reportedly got to know of whatever had happened but he chose to keep silent. The trio will be arraigned in court once their case file returns from RSA,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Mr Owoyesigyire said doctors alerted police that swung in action and arrested the mother and the caretaker. Police conducted an impromptu search at the suspects’ home where blood stains were discovered on the tiled floor.
Police have said a medical examination conducted against the suspects had revealed they are sane ruling out the possibility of them having acted outside their normal senses.
“Doctors’ medical examinations have ruled out the suspicion that these people acted possibly mad. Results show they are sane and acted when they were no normal and with no any mental illness. They committed the crime while in their normal senses,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
Police said the mother and caretaker are facing murder charges while their male co-accused could face the charge of accessory after the act of murder.
