Julius Achon

KAMPALA- Mr Julius Achon, the Otuke County Member of Parliament on Monday killed a stray dog that attacked and bit him during a jogging session, about 1 kilometre from his home in Namugongo, Wakiso District.

The 1994 World Junior Championship gold medallist, routinely undertakes a 10 to 15 kilometre run three times a week to keep fit.

Speaking to this reporter on phone from Lifelink Hospital in Namugongo where he is admitted, Mr Achon said the dog attacked him about 1km from his residence in Namugongo, a Kampala suburb.

“I saw the dog attack other people who were ahead of me. When I bypassed it, it started running after me. It jumped onto me and bit me on the thigh,” he said. “One of its teeth broke in my flesh. I had to punch it before it could get off me.”

According to Mr Achon, when the canine tried to flee, he picked a big stone and engaged it in a wild chase.

“The dog was fast but I chased it and stoned it to death. Some residents laughed at me during the chase but later praised me for killing the dog that has been terrorising them especially school-going kids,” he said.

The MP said he is resting after receiving an anti-rabies dose at the hospital.
