NRM names division mayoral flag bearers

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has declared winners of Monday’s municipality and division mayoral elections.
In Mbale City, the Mbale District NRM chairperson, Mr Muhamood Masaba Mutenyo, has been declared winner in the primaries for Industrial City Division mayoral seat. 
Mr Masaba polled 28,918 votes against his main rival, Mr Moses Kisolo, who scored 17,453 votes. 
Other contestants were Mr Fred Kuranga Masaba, who got 10,772 votes and Mr Sulaiman Wandukwa polled 5,198 votes.
However, Mr Kuranga contested the results, saying the electoral process was marred by irregularities.
Mr George Mwanika was declared winner for the NRM flag bearer for Northern City Division mayoral seat. 
He defeated Mr Zubairi Galiwango, the incumbent LC3 chairperson for Nakaloke Town Council. 
Mr Mwanika polled 37,761 votes against Mr Galiwango’s 8,060 votes.
In Gulu City, Mr Denis Oweka was declared mayoral flag bearer for Gulu West with 3,213 votes while his rival, Mr Patrick Okello, polled 267 votes.
Mr Francis Tony Okot went through unopposed as the NRM mayoral division flag bearer for Gulu East.
In Apac Municipality, those eyeing the NRM tickets for division mayoral seats – Mr Bob Ogwang for Arocha Division and Mr Denis Maxwell Okech for Akere Division, sailed through unopposed. 
Mr George Ongora and Mr Richard Adoko also went through unopposed as the flag bearers for Atik and Agulu divisions, respectively.

Fort Portal
In Fort Portal, the race in the Central Division was between Mr Richard Muhumuza and Mr Gilbert Kayondo. Mr Muhumuza emerged winner.
In the North Division, the race was between Mr Joseph Mashuhuku, Mr Kato Pascal, and Mr Emmanuel Kagoro. Mr Mashuhuku won the flag.
In Busoga Sub-region, the incumbent Iganga Municipality mayor, Mr David Balaba, was defeated by Mr Asuman Dabasadha, who has been the Iganga Central Division LC3 chairman. 
Mr Dabasadha polled 8,937 votes against Mr Balaba’s 1,819 votes. Mr Balaba, however, declined to concede defeat, saying the exercise was marred by irregularities.
In Jinja, the Bugembe Town Council LC3 chairman,  Mr Steven Wante, has been declared winner for Jinja North Division with 7,515 votes against Mr Hamis Kiganira’s 6,254.
In Jinja South City Division, businessman Nasser Ashraf won the poll with 8,256 votes against 1,076 votes obtained by his opponent, Mr James Mawanda.
In Bugiri Municipality, Mr Ayoub Kisubi garnered 4,723 votes, defeating Ms Zabura Mugala, who polled 537 votes, and in Kamuli Municipality, Mr Aziz Luwano obtained 8,730 votes to take the NRM flag after he defeated Mr Ibrahim Mbadhi, who got 992 votes.
Ms Amina Mirembe, a journalist attached to a local FM radio in Jinja City, took the NRM flag for Mafubira Central Ward at Jinja North City Division Council. 
Mr Rogers Kiduma, also a journalist attached to Busoga Kingdom Radio, lost the flag for Buwekula Parish to Mr Michael Kimera.
In Busia, Ms Doreen Nafuna won the mayoral race for the NRM party flag bearer after she polled 3,414 votes, defeating her nearest challenger, Mr Yassin Mangeni, who garnered 2,400 votes.  
Former mayor Michael Mugeni polled 2,368 votes and Mr David Mangeni trailed with 198 votes.
In Kabale Municipality, Mr Paul Birungi was declared the winner for the NRM party flag for Kabale Municipality mayoral seat. 
Mr Birungi polled 5,779 votes defeating his rival, Mr Brian Kirasha, who got 1,214 votes.
In Kisoro Municipality, Mr Richard Ndyana went through unopposed while in Lira City, Mr Emmy Joe Odongo, was also declared unopposed.
Similarly, Mr Denis Awon, the former LC3 chairman of Lira Sub-county, went through unopposed as the NRM mayoral candidate for Lira City West Division.
In Arua Central Division, Mr Muzamil Ham Ezama, a businessman, was declared winner after garnering 6,028 votes. 
Other contenders; Mr Swadick Angupale Alemi polled 5,065 votes while Mr Nasur Kafu Yusuf trailed with 2,493 votes.
In Ayivu Division, the former LC3 chairman for Pajulu Sub-county, Mr Malon Avutia Malon, won with 46,960 votes. 
Other contestants in the race were Mr Faustine Yikita Obia, who polled 23,769 votes, Mr Levi Dema Yiki (14,378) and Mr Walter Erimah Magellan (2,965).  
In Koboko Municipality, the incumbent mayor,  Mr Wilson Sanya, won with 2,669 votes. His closest competitor, Mr Siraji Nyaga Kapere, got 2,464 votes.
In Nebbi Municipality, the incumbent mayor, Mr Geoffrey Ngiriker, went through unopposed.

Western region
In Mbarara, Mr Gumisiriza Kyabwisho won the NRM flag for mayor of Mbarara North Division. 
He defeated Mr Benon Mugume and Mr Geoffrey Bamwesigye.
Also, Mr Jomo Mugabi defeated four candidates to become the mayoral flag bearer for Mbarara South Division. 
His rivals were Mr Rashid Mukasa, Ms Doreen Atamba, Mr Keneth Umoja Ndyabigwamu and Mr Deo Rukundo.
In Ibanda Municipality, Mr Apollo Twine Kibeherere defeated Mr Arthur Rwomushana Nuwagaba, Ms Leticia Tuheebwe and Mr Robert Tumwebaze.
In Bushenyi, Mr Richard Byaruhanga took the NRM mayoral flag for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. 
He defeated Mr Martin Mumpe, Mr James Magezi and Mr Francis Mwebembezi.
In Rukungiri Municipality, Mr Geoffrey Tindamwetsire beat Sgt (Rtd) Emmanuel Banyenzaki while in Sheema Municipality, Mr Abel Kahara went through unopposed.
