Kampala.

Former prime minister Amama Mbabazi has said people are getting tired of his silence.

“I was fired [by President Museveni] as Prime Minister. I have been quiet. But I am going to speak. People are getting tired of my silence,” he said yesterday.

Mr Mbabazi was meeting a 30-member delegation from Kibaale District.
The delegation, led by Mr Medard Ahumuza, the councillor of Mohorro Sub–county, had visited him to request him to contest as a flag-bearer of the NRM party during its primaries slated for October.

Mr Mbabazi also said he could associate with the Opposition and ruling party as long as it would ensure unity.

Differed
The President, in the aftermath of the Mbabazi sacking, told the British Broadcasting Corporation he had dropped Mr Mbabazi [in September 2014] because he was involved in divisive activities within the NRM.

Yesterday, Mr Mbabazi told the media at his home in Kololo, in Kampala that: “I have zero problem associating with the Opposition.”
“I believe we should achieve maximum unity in order to overcome the serious problems [facing Ugandans]. So let us unite. So, I would like to associate with everyone, including the Opposition,” he added.

There has been talk that Mr Mbabazi has been engaged in talks with some Opposition political leaders to form a coalition to oust Mr Museveni from State House.

To this, Mr Mbabazi said: “I am absolutely free” though he refused to be drawn into a discussion of this matter.

On NRM youth
Mr Mbabazi also discounted claims that the NRM Poor Youth, who were associated with him such as Mr Omodo Omodo have since abandoned him. “I saw a picture of Omodo Omodo and James Namara in the same vehicle with the President. If they got the honour of the President being their driver, I have no problem with it,” he said.
