UCU acquires modern equipment to boost dentistry school

  • The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Rt Rev Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu urged Ugandans to always go for teeth checkups and cleaning to keep them safe and strong.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) on Thursday unveiled new modern equipment to boost their school of dentistry within Mengo Hospital.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Aaron Mushengyezi said the equipment are worth Shs1.6 billion.

“Remember we had some challenges and we were once closed by the East African Dental Practitioners Council over lack of necessary equipment, but we now have the best equipment in the country," he said.

Prof Mushengyezi said UCU bought the chairs and some equipment and other sets of equipment were donated by partners in America.

“UCU School of dentistry is now operating because we have enough modern equipment and the East African Dental Practitioners Council visited us to check on them," he said.

Dr James Magara, the school dean said they shall produce the best doctors in the country.

"We so far have 23 students majoring in dentistry and they will come out as the best doctors," he said.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Rt Rev Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu urged Ugandans to always go for teeth checkups and cleaning to keep them safe and strong.

The Archbishop advised students to utilize the facility so as to benefit as expected.

Background

UCU, St Augustine International University, and Busitema University were ordered to stop admitting students for medicine and dentistry courses for lack of appropriate infrastructure.

They were also asked to distribute students already admitted on the programmes to other universities with the requisite infrastructure until they satisfy the minimum standards to teach the courses.
