People in Kisoro District have promised President Museveni 110 per cent votes because of fulfilling his pledge of having their Kabale-Kisoro Road tarmacked.
President Museveni made the pledge of tarmacking the road in 2001 but work started on 2007. About 80 per cent of the road works are complete.

“We thank you so much for the tangible development in my district. In the past we have been giving your government 99 per cent of the vote but now we promise 110 per cent,” Dr Philemon Mateke, the district boss, said yesterday.

The ruling National Resistance Movement presidential candidate also promised free education for Senior Five students and those in technical institutions come next year.

He also promised to give an ambulance for Kisoro Hospital to ease the transportation of patients to different referral centres and a CD4 count machine.

CD4 count machines help determine the stage of infection, guides drug choices and indicate the patient’s response to treatment.

They also enable the physician to know when to start HIV patients on the life-saving therapy. President Museveni, who addressed three rallies in the three constituencies of Bufumbira East, North and South, asked the people to vote for him and all the NRM party flag bearers.

The incumbent Bufumbira North MP, Mr Silver Bahane, highlighted the need for power extension to his constituency to empower people investing in cottages industries.

At the end of the rally, President Museveni called forward NRM members who will stand as independents in their constituencies having lost the party primaries defectors, including Ethics Minister Nsaba Buturo, Mr Bahane, Ms Eudia Kwizera and Ms Rose Kabagyenyi, to the podium and said: “NRM Oyee, NRM Oyee.”

At least 100 NRM independents all over the country have vowed not to stand down despite the party’s top hierarchy, at some point, giving them an ultimatum.

Today, Mr Museveni will continue his tour of the south west region with rallies in Rubanda West, East and Kabale Municipality.
