Here is how you can organise the laundry room
Only a few homes have a designated laundry room. Nevertheless, you can create space in either your kitchen or store as the laundry, it is the way you organise it that matters.

Any room that is designated for either dirty, clean or ironed clothes is the laundry room and here is how you can organise it.
Having an entire room dedicated to laundry is not something many of us are accustomed to but it’s actually a very practical idea. A side from the washing machine and the dryer, there are lots of other aspects you need to take into consideration so as to make your laundry room look good. Lydia Muyanja an interior designer at Smart House Designers, explains that you can organise everything such as washed clothes, iron them and put them back where they belong without any one seeing the process because it can all be done in the laundry room.
How should a laundry room look like?
This will depend on each person’s needs and preferences. “If you have the necessary space, you can have a washer or a dryer in there as well as an ironing table and a large closet in that room,”
Organise all your cleaning supplies in one place.
Open shelves are an excellent and practical way of keeping the laundry room organised. “You should use them to store items you use on a regular basis such as soap, detergent, scrubbing brush and sponges. The extras should go in drawers and behind closed doors or on the top shelf,” Muyanja explains.
Utilising space
To save space in a small laundry room, Muyanja says consider stacking the washer and dryer one on top of the other. “This way you can squeeze them both into a narrow passage, maybe even hide them behind closed doors and still have plenty of room for storage.
Use of bins and baskets
Use bins and baskets to sort, organise and store your cleaning supplies and clothes. They allow you to use open shelves to their full potential and they are also very practical. Just pull out the container and take it with you wherever you need it.
Joatina Kembabazi, an interior designer with Excel Interior Designers, says it is important to have plenty of storage in the laundry room. You have to store somewhere the detergents and the other supplies but you also need the storage space for all the clothes.
“Normally, most laundry rooms belong to women and lots of them like to use this room often, but they have to use primary colours such as red, blue, yellow and orange ,among others, to make it cool,” Kembabazi says.
She adds that if you do not have a designated laundry room but have a room that serves as a store and a laundry room, you can maximise space usage by installing retractable cloth lines or freestanding drying racks by mounting them on the walls to save floor space.
