What you should be sowing for eternal life

In our walk with God, it is valuable to take a personal assessment. If you are unhappy with what you are reaping, you need to look at the kind of seeds you are sowing.

We have reached a time when people do not hold God in high regard. Many seem to have put Him out of their thoughts.

In the olden days, people would become afraid when they sinned. When they transgressed God’s law they thought of judgment, and their minds went forward to the thought of repercussion. Now people sin with impunity, ignoring the Word of God.

No dilemma
In our deeds, thoughts and what we fail to do, we are sowing. Pr Godfrey Lubwama, the head of SDA Kampala Central Church, says we must choose between sowing to the flesh or life eternal. There are two forces that are in controversy and we choose what to follow.

Galatians 6:7-8 reads, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

“To sow of the flesh is to follow the desires and inclinations of our own hearts. Whatever our profession maybe, if we are serving self instead of God we are sowing to the flesh. The Christian life is a life of self-denial and cross bearing. This is one of the signs that one is growing deep in Christ,” Pr Lubwama warns.

He adds, “We are to endure harshness of storms and trials in this world as soldiers of Christ. No one looks upon the life of a soldier as a life of self-pleasing and gratification. We are in the battlefield, and two great forces of righteousness and darkness are ever contending for mastery upon us.”

Have goals
When we sow to the spirit, every temptation resisted will give us power to sow to the spirit in another time of trial. And gradually, your steps will be elevated not into pride but humility following the character of Christ. If you are sowing faith, rendering obedience to Christ, you will reap faith and power for future obedience of where we want to be; heaven.
John 6:27 states: “Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

Pr Lubwama says, “As we labour in this world, our aim should not be on the worldly pleasures that perish but rather for everlasting life given by Jesus Christ. He presents a white robe, a crown of glory richer than any that ever decked the brow of a monarch and above the titles of all honoured kings in the world.”

If you are seeking to be a blessing to others, God will bless you. The joy we give to others will be reflected upon us again for this is what we have sown. The reward for a life devoted to the service of Christ exceeds any human imagination.

Consequences
We should, therefore, acknowledge our accountability to God. Not only are we held accountable for our developed character but also for the things undone for the undeveloped character and unimproved opportunities.
Daniel 12:3 states: “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn any to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”

“The whole being must be consecrated to God, for our Saviour never shares a divided heart. Our inclination and desires must be under control of the Spirit of God, and then we shall be strengthened to fight the good fight of faith. We should daily ask of our father to guide us and let His will be done in us,” Pr Lubwama remarks.

It is love of pleasure and self-esteem and exaltation that is preventing us from learning the lesson from Christ.

If we abide in Christ, we will learn not to be rude, dishonest or unfaithful because He will uproot all unholy passions and practices in us.
