600 places to catch fireworks tonight

New year fete: As the world welcomes the New Year, tradition has been that fireworks take centre stage at the stroke of midnight. And to usher in 2017 tonight, the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, has cleared 618 venues for the spectacular display of fireworks. The police boss has also authorised six companies to supply fireworks. The cleared firms include Tomil Fireworks Ltd, Light Africa (U) Ltd, Quality Lighting Ltd, Party Fireworks Ltd, Extremes Events Ltd and Fesco Ltd. Gen Kayihura on Thursday said all fireworks would be escorted by counterterrorism police and fireworks displays shall last for only five minutes. Out of the 618 places cleared, Kampala Metropolitan area that covers Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono has 321 venues. Joseph Kato presents the venues.
