Family survives arson attack

According to Police detectives, the 25-year old peasant reportedly threw a burning bottle filled with petrol through a window and into a house belonging to Mr Bukenya Tuhumule, 25, a resident of Kicuunda Village, Kicuunda Parish, Kasimbi Sub County.

Police in Kibaale District have arrested a man who is suspected to have attempted to burn an entire family.
According to Police detectives, the 25-year old peasant reportedly threw a burning bottle filled with petrol through a window and into a house belonging to Mr Bukenya Tuhumule, 25, a resident of Kicuunda Village, Kicuunda Parish, Kasimbi Sub County.
The house was consequently gutted by fire at the time as Mr Tuhumule and his family members were sleeping at about 11pm on Tuesday night.
Tuhumule received serious burns but he survived the attack after fleeing through a window.
Tuhumule’s wife, one Turinawe, 20, a Rwandan national sustained burns along with her one-and-a-half-year old son Godfrey Arora.
The victims were rushed to St. Ambrose health centre in Kagadi Town council for treatment.
“The motive of the arson is not yet clearly established. The suspect is in police custody. Inquiries are at hand,” the Albertine regional Police spokesperson Mr Julius Hakiza said on Wednesday.
He said the incident was reported by Mr Tuhumule at Kyebando police post under reference KB/ CRB 779/2018.
