Four dead, three injured in Iganga motor accident

Four people have died in a motor accident in Iganga District when a driver of Toyota Nadia car hit a boda boda rider and rammed into a makeshift restaurant along Iganga-Tirinyi highway.
The Tuesday evening accident happened at Bukoona village.
Eye witnesses told this reporter that the boda boda cyclist was carrying three passengers.
Three other people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Iganga hospital.
Mr Francis Bagaga, an eye witness said that after hitting the boda boda cyclist and his passengers, the car lost control and rammed into the restaurant in which three other people were seated.
The deceased where identified as Julius Mpima, a boda boda cyclist, Kyiyemba Kange, Naiwumbwe Masitula and Daudi Maganda all residents of Iganga.

The officer in charge traffic in Iganga District, Mr Moses Nandege attributed the cause of the accident to reckless riding by the boda boda cyclist.
“The boda boda entered the highway before checking whether there was a vehicle coming and as a result, he was hit by the car,” Mr Nandege said.

Residents said the area was registering numerous accidents and appealed to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to put humps.
“This area has a junction of three roads but there is no road sign to alert traffic. We ask UNRA to place some humps in the area and avert some of the accidents,” said Mr Brian Majidu, a resident of Bukona village.

This comes just hours after another accident in Mabira Forest along Jinja Road claimed the lives of two people and left 26 others in critical condition.
