Local leaders ask Kadaga, Namuganza to reconcile

Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga

Mayuge- Ten district LC5 chairpersons hailing from Busoga sub region have asked the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga and the State minister of Lands, Ms Persis Namuganza to reconcile and end the bickering they say would affect development in the sub region.

The position of the local leaders was communicated during a recent meeting called in Mayuge town to devise strategies of developing the sub region and also to find remedies to the continuing infighting and bickering among leaders.

There has been animosity between the two political figures from the sub-region which came to the fore after Ms Namuganza attacked Ms Kadaga following the installation of a traditional chief.

In a press statement read by the LC5 chairperson Mayuge District, Mr Humaru Bongo, the leaders noted that the bickering between the two national politicians was not necessary at this time when the sub region is ranked among the poorest in the country.
“We have been irked by the bickering between the two leaders and as LC5 chairpersons, we are calling for reconciliation,” Mr Bongo said.

He said they are fed up with endless bickering and infights among leaders in the sub region which they said have strongly affected development in the region.

“We have resolved to call our leaders to reconcile them because we have fought each other for a long time and Busoga has not gained from our wars,” he added.

Mr Bongo said that they have proposed to have a fora of religious leaders who will arbitrate the conflicting parties.
The Luuka LC5 chairperson, Mr Baker Luwangula, called for unity and respect among leaders in order to transform the sub region.
“Busoga is lagging behind because we lack unity, solidarity and respect for each other and once we observe this, the region shall prosper” he said.

“We shall not restore the dignity of Busoga by abusing, insulting and fighting one another. It can only be restored through eradicating poverty,” Mr Thomas Kategere, the Kamuli District LC5 chairperson, said.

The Iganga District chairman Patrick Kayemba said that the sub region is engulfed in poverty and this can addressed by concerted effort of leaders from the region.

“Busoga has a number problems and it is us the leaders to solve them. By getting divided means that we have been defeated,” Mr Kayemba said.

Ms Namuganza has lately come under the spotlight for attacking Speaker Kadaga and the Kyabazinga. This has led to her being expelled from Busoga Parliamentary Group, a coalition of MPs hailing from Busoga sub-region, after a one-week ultimatum she was given to apologise to the Speaker and Kyabazinga elapsed.
