Rukungiri: The High Court in Rukungiri on Tuesday sentenced a man to 16 years in prison for murdering his wife.

Obed Akampurira, a resident of Rutenga Sub-County in the neighbouring Kanungu District was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the murder before Justice Moses Kazibwe.

Akampurira murdered his wife Malicent in 2016 using a panga (machete). He had attempted to commit suicide twice before killing the wife due to habitual domestic conflict.

He was sentenced to 16 years and three months in jail.

The couple had three children aged 6, 4 and 2. They are currently looked after by the grandmother.
