Schoolboy killed in Bukwo grenade explosion

BUKWO: A 13-year-old boy died on spot after a grenade he was playing with exploded.

The incident happened on Monday at Musoni village, Kamet Sub County in Bukwo District.

The Sipi region police spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Chemos Kenan, a pupil at Kamet Primary school.

“We regret the death of a young boy. The grenade blasted him on the stomach and died on spot,” Mr Taitika said.

Police preliminary investigation indicates that the deceased picked the suspected grenade from where he had taken the goats to graze.

According to Mr Taitika, the deceased started playing with the grenade which he thought was just a simple metallic object.

“When he picked the grenade, he started hitting it with a mental thus blasting and killing him instantly,” Mr Taitika said.

Police said they have launched investigations into the matter to establish what exactly happened.

“We have the fragments of the blast which we are to forward to the Tactical Field Engineering Unit. We appeal to the people in Sipi region to report any suspicious object they come across to the security for quick response,” he said.

The body was taken to Bukwo District hospital for post-mortem.
