Two people have been confirmed dead after a truck they were traveling in lost control and overturned at Walugogo Valley along the Iganga-Jinja Highway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the truck which was transporting bottled water belonging to Blue Wave water company, overturned when a Boda Boda cyclist who was coming from Luuka Road ‘recklessly joined the Highway’.
Muzamir Kasadha, an eyewitness, blamed the Boda Boda cyclist for the accident, saying: “He (cyclist entered the Highway recklessly without waiting for the vehicles on the main road to clear as required by traffic.”

Mr Shaban Maganda, another eyewitness, recounted the cyclist bumping into the Highway, forcing the truck driver to lose control as he avoided hitting an oncoming commuter taxi.
The cyclist, whose identity was still unknown by press time, was rushed to Iganga Hospital in critical condition while the deceased were identified as Joel Wamimbi and Brian Santa, both employees of Blue Wave Water Company in Kampala.
Ivan Kaboge, one of the company employees, said the truck left the factory on Tuesday morning destined for Soroti and its neighbouring Districts.

Transport along the Iganga-Jinja Highway was paralyzed for about an hour as police processed the scene to recover the wreckage.
The Busoga East Police Publicist, James Mubi, said the driver of the truck fled the scene while the bodies were taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
Residents have appealed to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to place humps along the road.
This accident brings the number of fatalities within the past two weeks to five. Earlier, three people died following an accident at Bukona Village, also along the Iganga-Tirinyi Highway.
