World X-Country hits fever-pitch as teams arrive

KAMPALA.

With three days to the 41st IAAF World Cross Country, the arrivals lounge at Entebbe airport is buzzing with activity.

Three of the 58 teams jetted into the country for the global biennial event due Sunday at Kololo Independence grounds.

Team USA was the latest to touch base at Entebbe, arriving on Tuesday night. Australia and Fiji Islands were the first nations to arrive here, all received by Local Organising Committee official Moses Asonya.

This year’s edition will have the greatest participation ever from Africa - an estimated 56 percent of participants from this continent with a contribution of 26 out of a total 59 countries competing.

Japan, Lebanon and Canada are expected to arrive on Wednesday as over 900 guests are expected to visit the country.

Kampala is only the fifth city in Africa to host this showpiece after Rabat (1975), Stellenbosch (1996), Marrakech (1998) and Mombasa (2007).
