Magala, Baite ‘burn’ course at UGC Lady Captain’s prize

KAMPALA. March 18, 2018 will go down as a special day not only for outgoing Lady Captain Dr Mary Ocheng and her heir Anne Abeja.
Many golfers will remember the day for the arguably returning their best rounds of golf in eons. Whoever could not return under on the day had no chance of sniffing at a podium place.
Eva Magala and Paul Baite led the cast of star performers with awe-inspiring scores enroute to inscribing their names on the respective overall men and women’s titles at this year’s Lady Captain’s Prize played at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course.
With the course in pristine condition, Magala and Baite, who played off handicap nine and six ‘burnt down’ the course with returns of 63 and 65 nett respectively to deservedly take home a trophy, golf bag, voucher of quick service at Quick Lane and two nights for two at Golden Tulip apiece.
“I thank my God for enabling me pull this off and I also thank my husband (Patrick Kituuma Magala) and my brother (Robert Mukasa) for always sponsoring my golf and believing in me,” said Magala, who also received an HTC Phone on a day she could have rewritten the course record of 63 had she not missed gettable birdies on No. 16, 17 and 18. “I had a sleepless night because I had new set of particular clubs that I had to try out. I also recently changed my swing and noticed it would produce the results because I also played well during the midweek club event. This is my best round of golf ever.”
Magala, also a former UGC Lady Captain for two terms in 2010-11, played with a new Ping G400 Driver, G400 Three Wood and a V White Odyssey Putter that sank four birdies on No.3, 8, 13 and 14 despite one bogey on the par 4 No.2. Her reward for playing a solid round will be a new handicap – four – and like Baite, who will now play off six.
Baite, who is the club’s membership secretary, was equally in beast mode with a three birdies on No.1, 9 and 13. “I will not talk about my golf because it speaks for itself,” said Baite to a rousing cheer from the gallery that was chanting: ‘well in, well in’.
“I was in good nick and particularly my putter was on fire. I was putting for gold. I have a good omen of winning whenever it is a ladies event because I was last here during the Ladies Open.”
