Rwanda champ Fitidis aiming to prepare for Pearl in Busiika

The former Rwanda champion hasn’t competed for the last six months and wants to brush off the rust during Race to Race.

KAMPALA- Christakis Fitidis will treat the Race to Race Sprint next Sunday as a dress rehearsal for the Shell Pearl of Uganda Rally scheduled for August.
The Rwanda-based driver has just fully recovered from the hernia operation he underwent in December.

“I had to take six months off from the sport following the doctor’s advice,” Fitidis told Saturday Monitor. “But come Sunday (June 1), I will be in Busiika to show off my skills.”
Fitidis, a former Rwanda champion, has been a regular competitor on the Ugandan scene for the past two years. He will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo 6 at Busiika. Jas Mangat, a two-time national champion, who has not participated in any event this season is also expected to break his duck.

Other drivers who have so far registered for the event include Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge, 2011 national champion, Jas Mangat reigning national champion, Ronald Ssebuguzi, current NRC leader, Jonas Kansiime, Shafiq Ssemujju, Ismail Ortega, Fred Wampamba, Wilberforce Pole Pole and Peter Kakaire. The drivers will have two runs with a total distance of 8.54km. Entries close on May 30.

Drivers will start recce today. Action will start at 10am with riders putting on a show before the cars roll off.
