Saturday Result
Uganda 1-0 Kenya

Bobby Williamson reckons Uganda Cranes will continue to grind out results as long as that can guarantee his side an appearance at any continental tournament. Williamson’s team managed an unconvincing 1-0 first leg victory over archrivals Kenya on Saturday in the last qualifying round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Namboole stadium.

“It is impossible to play well in all the games. It’s okay to win with character and ambition; that’s a good element of any team,” Williamson said. “It’s also good to have difficulties because we can learn from them.” It was the third time Cranes were managing a one-nil win against the Harambee Stars, the last two coming in Cecafa triumphs in 2009.

“Repeating the same feat is never easy. Nerves, pressure, pride and passion come into play but the boys soaked all that to get a result, which matters most” the Scot argued.

Cranes and Kenya are also drawn in the same Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group along with Angola and Guinea Bissau. “As much as we’re getting the better of them of late, you fear for the worst that they may beat us when we want it most,” Williamson noted. He also defended his selection and fitness concerns of goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge, defenders Isaac Isinde and Simeon Masaba, and attackers Anthony Bongole and Juma Sadam.
