Bbosa says ban won’t affect Villa

Villa head coach Wasswa Bbosa

What you need to know:

  • Bbosa had to be restrained by Mukatabala in the said confrontation with referee Deogratius Opio, who was in charge of Villa’s 2-0 win over Soana - an act that led to the former’s ban.
  • Mukatabala, a Caf B licensed coach - same level as Bbosa - agrees with his colleague that they should be just fine.

KAMPALA. Last week’s respective four-match bans to SC Villa and Vipers coaches Wasswa Bbosa and Miguel Da Costa could not have come at a worse time for both sides.

The duo will each miss the next four Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) matches, with Da Costa sitting out today’s home tie against Masavu before Bbosa joins him in the trenches for Mbarara versus Villa on Saturday.

This development is particularly disturbing for both parties as it comes thick in the title run-in, with Villa topping the log on 49 points, Vipers and KCCA three and four points behind respectively.

But with Bbosa sitting out four of Villa’s six remaining matches, the Villa coach insists his absence from the touchline will not affect their charge at the club’s first league title in 14 years.

“They have banned me from the bench, and not the training ground,” he told Daily Monitor, “We train together with my colleague Paul (Mukatabala) and whatever I can do on the bench, he can also do.”

Mukatabala, a Caf B licensed coach - same level as Bbosa - agrees with his colleague that they should be just fine.
They spoke to this newspaper before Villa beat KJT 3-0 in their Uganda Cup quarterfinal tie at Lugogo on Sunday. “For us, Bbosa and I, there is no head coach,” said Mukatabala, “We treat each other as equals, with respect and anyone of us can do the same job on the bench.

“Of course we would have loved my colleague to be on the bench with us but now that he is not, we have to move on and I’m positive it will not affect out title challenge.
“Our players know what is at stake and we want to keep the focus, especially after not picking any point from our match with Vipers.”
