Bridesmaids day out at Fufa Drum

KAMPALA. Few expected the last group matches of the Fufa Drum tourney to be as tense as they are anticipated this afternoon.
In Group B where Acholi are assured leaders with 11 points, Buganda (seven points) and Lango (five) are yet to confirm who will finish second. The first duel between Buganda and Acholi three months ago at Pece Stadium in Gulu ended in a barren draw but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.

Acholi coach Peter Onen will unleash his army led by Denis Okot, Silvester Okello, Walter Ochora, and Ronald Owinyi as they visit Buganda this afternoon at Bishop SSS Grounds in Mukono. His force will be met by Douglas Muganga, Brian Majwega (captain), Mike Kawooya and Vianney Ssekajugo spearheading coach Alex Isabirye’s quest.
A draw may be enough for Buganda should Bob Obira’s Lango, inspired by KCCA wonder kid Allan Okello, fail to beat basement side Kigezi in Lira.

Similarly in Group D, runaway leaders West Nile are playing for pride against Ankole, who must win to upstage second placed Tooro. One point separates Ankole and Tooro that face Karamoja in another must win encounter in Moroto. Should high flying Kampala beat Bunyoro as was the case at Lugogo earlier; second placed Bukedi will need to avoid defeat to join Wasswa Bbosa’s side in the quarterfinals of the provincial tourney.
Group A is almost decided with leaders Bugisu and second placed Busoga all tied on 10 points and with seemingly ‘easy’ last ties to put to bed. The quarterfinal matches are scheduled for June 30 and July 1.
