What you need to know:

  • New era. Express FC became the latest giant to enter a deal with a shirt sponsor when the club unveiled its partnership with Pay TV company DStv in a Shs305m agreement.
  • In arguably one of the most genuine UPL deals, Express is set to receive Shs50m in cash, Shs20m for training, home and away kits. Another Shs64m will assist in branding the Wankuluku Stadium.

Kampala. Besides calling off a few games in turn raising eyebrows, some questionable refereeing decisions and low scoring ties, this Uganda Premier League (UPL) season has been a stand-out for all good thus far.
The positive vibe has hardly faded right from Day One back in August. The month of October wraps up with a mouth-watering tie with SC Villa hosting old foe Express at Namboole tomorrow. If there was any impetus that Express needed for this crunch tie, it had to come yesterday. The club unveiled a Shs305m one-year sponsorship deal with Multichoice Uganda’s DStv. “Our choice of sponsorship anchors on the legacy we both share as brands DStv and Express,” Multichoice chairman Steven Musoke told the gathering during the press launch at Golf Course Hotel yesterday.

“We also have confidence to support the club because of the credibility it is showing after appointment of Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi as club chairperson,” Musoke reasoned.
Pay television DStv will now be shirt sponsors from the Red Eagles as the club becomes the sixth with a sponsor in the UPL this season.

“Today marks a day where we celebrate the partnerships of two big brands,” club chairperson Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi said. Before the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Nakiwala had spoken, she called on club ambassador Bobi Wine and a few fans to sing the club’s famous song ‘Naalya maama’, arousing charm in the room.

In arguably one of the most genuine UPL deals, Express is set to receive Shs50m in cash, Shs20m for training, home and away kits. Another Shs64m will assist in branding the Wankuluku Stadium.
Further breakdown shows Shs120m will be used for logistics during match-day activities and another Shs100m for promoting the six-time league champions across different media channels.
