Fufa pleased with Sébastien impact at Chan event

KAMPALA.

The cold reception that greeted the returning Uganda Cranes players at Entebbe Airport yesterday said it all – they had performed below many a Ugandan football fanatic’s expectations.
After touching down aboard Qatar Airways at 2:35pm, few chose to travel to Kampala by the team bus choosing to speed off with their relatives. Cranes garnered a paltry one point from three games against Ivory Coast, Namibia and Zambia in the ongoing Morocco Chan tourney.
“The coach is pushing for a lot of professionalism in the group of players he is working with now.
“By the time they link up with the senior players in March for the international friendly match they would they would have caught up,” Fufa communications manager Ahmed Hussein told Daily Monitor yesterday. “He (Sébastien Desabre) is currently on official duties in France and will have a chance to talk to players in European leagues (like Belgium based Farouk Miya and Romania based Kizito Luwagga) and he will be back before the second round of the Uganda Premier League.
The former Ismaily coach vowed to achieve much with Cranes during his three year contract. He replaced Moses Basena who had a mixed show during the Cecafa tourney in Kenya last month. The league is set to resume on February 10 leaders SC Villa aim prevent KCCA from winning a third straight title.
Fufa have set February 4th as the date Sébastien will tell the nation what transpired in the Chan adventure that had Cranes lose twice and draw once. Uganda Cranes will get back to Afcon business in September against Tanzania which gives the 41-year-old Frenchman a chance to establish his offensive strategy.
