Micho to ring changes for Malawi friendly

National team coach Micho Sredojevic

KAMPALA. With the Caf U-23 championship qualifier against Egypt on July 18 in mind, coach Micho Sredojevic has opted to use the Kobs team for today’s build -up game against Malawi.
But after nine Kobs players featured on Saturday as Uganda eliminated Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate in the 2016 Chan qualifier, Micho admits he might have to refresh his team ahead of today’s game in Blantyre.
“Whoever played full game today (Saturday) will be an impact player on Monday so that I have many players with match fitness except for players where I have no coverage,” he said.
Those that appear in need of a rest include forward Farouk Miya, who had a quiet game on Saturday, and defender Shafiq Bakaki. The two have featured in six international games since the domestic league ended in May.
“There was a bit of fatigue but players are coming off a competitive season so some matches we win, others we don’t. With a 3-0 first leg result I believe we got a bit complacent but played well defensively,” Micho said of his side’s performance.
It was the Tanzanians who started brightly on Saturday and thought they were ahead after 14 minutes.

But John Bocco’s effort was to be ruled out in what appeared a close offside call.
Yet still the lanky striker was not to be denied in the second half, putting his side in front from the penalty spot after a handball in the area.
It was half an hour left on the clock and a goal down, when the Cranes buoyed by substitutes Frank Kalanda, Yassar Mugerwa and Keziron Kizito began to play with purpose as they sought an equaliser. It duly arrived in the 83rd minute after the Tanzanian defence failed to clear Miya’s low cross for Kizito to turn the ball home with his left foot just inside of the right hand post.
The result set up a two-legged clash against Sudan in October for a place at the 2016 Chan finals.
