KAMPALA. Before this Nile Special Premiership season kicked off, no one had heard of a certain Elijah Ssegawa but his catchy performances and 7 tries for Mongers in the local league have forced many to pay more attention whenever he is playing.
The 25-year-old is playing in his first local season after spending four years in England where has been pursuing a Bachelors in Civil Engineering at Sheffield University. While in England, Ssegawa was playing for Sheffield University and Sheffield Tigers.
The props’ displays are worthy a national team call up in the near future and the big man is more than ready to don the national colours.
“Playing for my country would be a dream come true,” Ssegawa told Daily Monitor. “A national team call-up would be the perfect beginning to my local rugby career considering the fact that I have been away for four years.”
“I am doing everything possible to make to earn a call-up and I keep getting better by the day because of the hard work I put in.”
Ssegawa’s displays this term could attract bigger sides like Heathens and Kobs to hire his services but at the moment it’s Mongers at his heart. “Right now I’m only thinking about playing for Mongers. It’s easier because I live in Entebbe.”
