Sports ministry rewards Micho with Shs50m

Kampala.

Even with pending salary arrears with Fufa, Uganda Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic (pic above) can still afford a smile.

Yesterday morning, the Serbian tactician was rewarded a Shs50m ‘token’ of appreciation from the Ministry of Education and Sports at their premises at Embassy House.

“This is to appreciate coach Micho for technically guiding us to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) for the first time in 38 years,” Commissioner for Sports in the Ministry Omara Apita told Daily Monitor.

At about 11am, coach Micho, clad in a red and black kit, picked his reward in cash from the Ministry’s accounts office.

“All that I have received will be shared with my coaching, medical, transport, equipment, logistics and support teams that have contributed to Uganda’s qualifying,” Micho later told this paper. “So from token received, it will go for token shared.”

The token comes 23 days since Cranes beat Comoros 1-0 courtesy of a Farouk Miya strike at Namboole to qualify for Afcon for the first time since 1978.

“This should not be confused with other issues regards his pending salary with Fufa,” Apita’s assistant Sam Odong said.
