KAMPALA- Uganda Christian University (UCU) were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage of the Nile Special University Football League (UFL) for the third year running following a 2-2 draw with Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) on Thursday evening in Mukono.

Needing a win or goalless draw to qualify, the draw meant UCU were eliminated on away goals rule following a 1-all draw in the first leg three weeks ago.

UMU took a 15th minute when Douglas Owori tapped home a long pass from Emmanuel Kamya.

UCU levelled through Joshua Kirathe who jumped onto a loose ball in the box and tapped it into an empty net.

UCU then took the lead three minutes before half time through a penalty after Joshua Aziku was brought down in the 18-yard box by UMU’s Nasser Lukwago.

Joshua Kigozi stepped up to convert the penalty that gave the Mukono based side the lead in the tie at 3-2.

However UMU restored their advantage in the 62nd minute when Jacob Owora prodded home after Owori’s shot hit the cross bar and came back into play.

UMU consequently became the first team to qualify for the semi finals of this year’s competition while the result marked the second time UCU were eliminated by the same opponents.

The Nkozi based university also progressed 4-1 on aggregate last season following 2-0 and 2-1 victories.
