Kampala. The race for this season’s Azam Uganda Premier League has long been considered a three-horse race involving SC Villa, KCCA and Vipers.
With the first two teams not in action until tomorrow, Vipers gave that notion more credence following a comfortable 2-0 win over fourth placed Onduparaka at the St Mary’s Stadium.
Quick-fire goals from Milton Karisa and Erisa Ssekisambu inside 12 minutes ensured the Kitende side moved three points ahead of KCCA on 32 points and one behind leaders Villa.
Striker Ssekisambu has, throughout the season, been castigated for being lethargic but composed himself to score a solo effort after cutting in from the left and shooting past Onduparaka custodian Nicolas Ssebwato.
The goal was the second inside 12 minutes after Karisa profited from poor marking to volley home a league leading eighth of the season.
With Ceaser Okhuti suspended for accumulating three yellow cards, Ezra Bida and Yafesi Mubiru lacked a cutting edge for Onduparaka who stay fourth on 26 points.
Journalists boycott Vipers presser
A section of sports journalists unanimously agreed to walk out on Vipers head coach Miguel Da Costa for his post-match address over what they termed as mistreatment. They claimed Vipers official Claire Mulindwa doesn’t give them time to use the press room to file their stories in time. Constant pleas to management had fallen to deaf ears when the journalists took their bold action.
