Unity. Holy Cross Family Ministries held prayer day celebrations aiminign at strengthening family ties, as David S Mukooza explores.

‘‘Do not wait up to when you have challenges and remember the Lord, be closer to God every day through prayer and pray as a family,” the Rev Fr Aloysius Alex Ddumba, the main celebrant of Mass at the Holy Cross family day, emphasised.
The cleric said this while celebrating the Holy Mass at the annual Family Prayer Day recently which was organised by Holy cross Family Ministries, a faith based organisation in Nsambya Catholic parish.
The Rev Fr Ddumba urged the participants who turned up in large numbers to pray daily withoutceasing and reminded them of the cross in their daily lives. He encouraged them to look to Jesus on the cross because His cross is the bridge that connects us to his Father (God).
He challenged parents who fail to teach children the values of prayer and only pray for themselves leaving the children on their own.
He said this has led to the detoriation of morals in society because a family without prayer cannot produce morally upright children.
“ Prayer helps mould these children. They start by praying for food, saying prayers before or after sleep and God will surely hear these prayers,” he said, adding that, God is always willing to hear us pray to him to have a conversation with him and in the end he will help us because he cannot help people who never speak to him.
The Rev Fr Leonard Olobo, the director of the faith-based organisation, said this is the third consecutive year of organising this kind of celebration and each year, it gets better.
“We organise many functions such as Rosary Day for primary school children that seeks to help them understand the rosary. Try prayer, it works contest for the youth which helps them to find many alternative ways of prayer and this is mainly done through secondary schools, Valentine’s day fete, which helps couples celebrate others in love and thank God for the gift of love,” says the Rev Fr Olobo. It was at this point that they thought about the Family Prayer Day to bring groups of people together.
“We seek to heal the family tree with prayer because then, we have the whole family together with the head of the family who is the Father,” he explains.
The Rev Fr Olobo says the number of participants increases every year and this shows that they are appreciating this initiative that seeks to build families on a firm foundation of prayer.
Mathew Mukalazi, one of the participants, thanked Holy Cross Family Ministries for taking their time to teach them without them paying a single coin.
“Wisdom or advice is the best gift that can be given to you and and this is what Holy Cross family has done for us,” Mukalazi said.
