Obsessions could distract you

What you need to know:

  • These days, the obsession with tattoos has emerged in such a big way, that one can no longer spot the original skin tone on some bodies!
  • All colours and shapes, inking is big business in some countries, mainly in Thailand.
  • With all the warnings about the dangers of this, non-reversible step, this trend is going strong.
  • Having a few friends who travel specifically for this procedure, I am told that after the first couple of tattoos, the obsession begins.

The selfie obsession: We were seated in the same row on a flight, an aisle between us, She had a mobile with a stick, was wearing a Santa cap, red in colour, passengers were passing by through the isle to get to their seats, she was taking endless selfies. Her selfie stick was bumping in their faces, but nothing was deterring her from her mission. The pout and all, and combing her long hair in the isle, and more selfies. Food and wine came, more photos, including us around her who certainly did not want to be part of this frenzy! It was a long flight, after the third hour, she finally slept.

The mirror: In a Thai massage parlour, the woman ‘seated’ at the reception said hi and allocated us a couple of therapists for foot massage. I happened to sit next to her desk. She went back to her chatting on the phone, I noticed that there was a mirror placed in front of her. She was talking while looking in the mirror, occasionally, she would touch her face and hair, and I dozed off with the massage. When I woke up, and one hour within the massage, the chatting, and the mirror were still in full action, I would call this the double obsession of mobile and mirror!

Tattoo obsession: When you travel to areas with beaches, you are bombarded with interesting exposure to beachwear. The debate used to be about how appropriately the holiday makers were dressed, or not. In late 1970s the topless beachwear became fashionable in Europe, but it was mostly women with good curves who dared to expose the previously hidden parts of their anatomy. Today, it is no longer the case, size, shape and age no longer matter, you think you are walking in people’s bathrooms!

My obsession: Some years ago I became obsessed with lollipops. I recall visiting speciality shops when visiting Europe searching for new flavours, friends gave me lollipop gifts. This lasted a year and the price was a couple of decayed teeth. For someone with no decays, this was a major disaster, especially that one of the teeth was treated badly, I am paying the price, even to date!
Don’t turn anything into an obsession!
