What you need to know:

  • Nigerian striker John Odumegwu, defender John Revita and forward Erisa Sekisambu are also not registered for the competition.
  • Allan Okello, Suleiman Mutyaba and Sadat Anaku will shoulder responsibility in front of Muzamiru. The winner over the two legs will advance to the money bracket group stage.

They may not have won a continental competition in their 56-year history but one of Uganda’s representatives in the Caf Confederation Cup, KCCA, enter the play-off round this Sunday the favourites.

Manager Mike Mutebi’s men take on Algerian club Paradou A.C at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo looking to draw first blood if they are to travel for the November 3 return leg with a greater chance to progress.

KCCA have demystified fear of North African clubs lately having beaten Club Africain, Fus Rabat, Al Masry and Al Ahly in the last three years.

And they come into this match high on confidence after scoring seven goals against one in their last two domestic league games, with Suleiman Mike Mutyaba netting four of them.

The hosts also dwarf Paradou on all historical and current feats. KCCA are 13-time Ugandan champions, 10 Uganda Cup winners, two Cecafa title holders, three-time quart-finalists and one-time semi-finalists on the continent.

On the contrary, 25-year-old Paradou have no topflight league title, and are hardly a popular name when you talk about Algerian clubs on the continent.

Mutebi cautions

However, that they eliminated Tunisian giants Sfaxien en route this stage shows KCCA will not underestimate them.
“Any club that is on the continent is a big club and is there on merit,” said KCCA manager Mutebi, “They eliminated Sfaxien before facing us and you know Sfaxien are seasoned campaigners on the continent.
“That shows you they are good enough. We respect them but we are not afraid like we used to be with Arabian countries.”

KCCA welcome back from injury Muzamir Mutyaba, who has been out for five games. His comeback is crucial as new signing Keziron Kizito, who has stepped in really well in his absence, is not registered on the continent.
Nigerian striker John Odumegwu, defender John Revita and forward Erisa Sekisambu are also not registered for the competition.

Allan Okello, Suleiman Mutyaba and Sadat Anaku will shoulder responsibility in front of Muzamiru. The winner over the two legs will advance to the money bracket group stage.
