Kampala- The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have said they are ready to work with the breakaway former party president, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, and his new Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party if he proves to be a genuine Opposition contender.

On Tuesday last week, Gen Muntu launched his new ANT party and unveiled its leadership hierarchy, which triggered speculation of fierce fallout between the two parties.

Addressing journalists at the FDC offices in Najjanankumbi yesterday, the party’s deputy spokesperson, Mr John Kikonyogo, said if Gen Muntu works towards weakening the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and removing it from power, they will not hesitate to cooperate with him.

Warning to Muntu
He warned that if Gen Muntu diverts from what he pledged to do for the country during the launch of his party, they would have no business with him.

“Muntu should work towards recruiting people from NRM to his new party to make it weaker. When he works towards overthrowing NRM, we shall be convinced that he is against the dictator and we shall be behind him,” Mr Kikonyogo said.
He said FDC is ready to work with anyone who subscribes to their ideology.

Gen Muntu fell out with FDC in 2018 and started on the process to form his own. The fallout came after he lost the party presidential election to Mr Patrick Amuriat in 2017.

Among his new party team include Mr Dan Mugarura, the former FDC electoral commission chairperson, and Ms Alice Alaso, the party’s former secretary general.

While launching his party, Gen Muntu said the Opposition parties in the country are currently too divided to bring down the dictatorship, pledging to unite all the Opposition actors.
