At least eight people are reported dead and 15 others admitted to hospitals with severe injuries following a motor accident that happened on Wednesday night at Namasoga Village, Bulamagi Sub County along Iganga-Jinja highway.

A traffic officer who asked not to be named because he's not authorised to speak to the media said a speeding commuter taxi heading to Jinja was trying to overtake another vehicle at a junction when it had a head-on-collision with a coaster that was heading to Iganga.

"We spent a lot of time trying to retrieve the body of the coaster driver that was stuck in the wreckage. Most of the survivors had broken legs, broken hands and head injuries," said the traffic officer.
