CMI joins probe in alleged murder of UPDF soldier

Jinja. The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has picked interest in a case involving a woman who was last week arrested for allegedly killing a Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldier.
Warrant Officer II Vincent Mujuni, 40, attached to Gadhafi Barracks in Jinja District, died on Boxing Day after his girlfriend reportedly stabbed him following a misunderstanding that resulted into a fight.

The incident
The incident, according to police authorities, took place at the girlfriend’s room in Rest Corner Market, Lubaga Village, Kimaka-Mpumudde in Jinja Municipality at around 4am.
Following the occurance, the suspect rushed to Jinja Police Station to report the fight before being taken into custody.
A detective, who declined to be named on Tuesday because of the sensitivity of the matter, said CMI had picked interest in the case and was expected to pick a copy of the suspect’s statement from the police station yesterday.
When this reporter visited the police station, the suspect was still in custody, with police saying she will be arraigned in court as soon as it opens.

“She is there (at the holding cell) and once court is open with daily duties, we shall arraign her to face murder charges,” the detective said.
The Jinja District Police Commander, Mr Vincent Irama, on Tuesday confirmed that the suspect is still in his custody.
Brig Richard Karemire, the UPDF spokesperson, said as the army, they must establish the motive behind the UPDF officer’s death.
“We have taken keen interest to establish the motive,” he told Daily Monitor by telephone.
