KAMPALA. A decomposing body of a woman was on Friday retrieved from a bush at Clock Tower in the Kampala City centre.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, said police received information that there was a decomposing body of an unidentified person dumped in the bushes at Base Zone, Clock Tower near the railway line.

“Police visited the scene and the body was identified to be of a one Sylvia, a Karimojong woman suspected to have been raped and strangled. The body was taken for postmortem at City Mortuary Mulago,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Mr Owoyesigyire said preliminary investigations pointed to murder after a sexual assault.

Meanwhile, Police have started investigations into the suspected suicide by shooting, by a security guard in Bukoto II parish, Nakawa Division, in Kampala.

Owoyesigyire, said detectives had started adding pieces together to establish whether, Charles Okene, shot himself or there was foul play.

Owoyesigyire said Okene was guarding together with his other colleague at Atlantis Elegance Apartment located on Plot 3 Kimera Close in Ntinda. “Okene was a guard attached to Rock Security services and on the fateful day he was on duty with his colleagues. We are going to interview his colleagues to understand whether he truly killed himself and what he did or said before the incident,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Police said Okene allegedly shot himself on the neck on wee hours of Monday but the motive was yet to be established as interviews were to be conducted with his fellow guards and employers.

“It is alleged [that] he shot himself on the neck and the bullet got out from the top of the head blowing off his skull. The reason of this suicide was not known but our Scene of Crime Offices visited the scene and collected the visible exhibits,” Owoyesigyire said.

He also said the deceased’s body was transported to Mulago hospital for postmortem.
