Yiira Republic is a bad dream, says Kibanzanga

The newly appointed state minister for Agriculture, Mr Christopher Kibanzanga, has told the people in Bundibugyo district to exclude secession from their demands from government.

“Tell me whatever your problems are, I will present them to the President for a solution but don’t tell me about Yiira Republic because that is a bad dream.
“We are all Ugandans in our lovely country Uganda,” Mr Kibanzanga said.

Mr Kibanzanga, a former staunch member of the opposition FDC party, was addressing his supporters who assembled at Harugale Sub-county headquarters last Friday to congratulate him upon his ministerial appointment.

Yiira State is said to be a wish for some officials and supporters of Rwenzururu Kingdom. However, Rwenzururu King Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere previously said the Yiira Republic is being agitated for by his subjects in eastern DR-Congo. There are many ethnic Bakonzo who live in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

However, in the aftermath of the recent Rwenzori attacks, government claimed they were propelled by persons who wanted to secede from Uganda and form Yiira Republic.
