Ssembabule- Ms Joy Kafula Kabatsi, a former head of legal department at State House, has petitioned the NRM electoral commission, seeking a cancellation of the nomination of Ssembabule Woman legislator Hanifa Kawooya over alleged lack of academic qualifications.

In her letter to NRM electoral commission chairperson Tanga Odoi, Ms Kabatsi claims that Ms Kawooya obtained a “U” grade at O-Level and she did not qualify to get the East African Certificate of Education as she claims.

What the letter says
“The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE ) made an inquiry into Kawooya’s academic qualifications and established that she did not qualify for East African Certificate of Education and she did not qualify for admission into A-level,” Kabatsi’s August 24 letter reads in part.

The letter states that Ms Kawooya in the past presented forged letters from Uganda National Examinations Board purporting to show that she had the necessary qualifications for nomination.

When contacted, Ms Kawooya said she was cleared by the NCHE to go ahead and be nominated to contest for the Woman MP seat for Ssembabule District.
